Six search and rescue technicians (SAR techs) from 14 Wing Greenwood's 413 Squadron are slated to leave Sunday morning to honour the tragedy and triumph that occurred at CFS Alert almost 17 years ago.
Given that just about anything is impressive to a recruit in recruit school, I remember seeing then WO MacAuly at the school and there was just something about him that said "bring it on"
It surprised me not at all to see his name amoung the SAR Techs that walked off the end of a Herc into an Arctic blizzard to do the job. Nor did it surpise me that he and his guys came out the other side with survivors.
They are a dedicated and just a little bit crazy bunch of pros who will do whatever it takes to save your sorry ass.

CWO, Arnie Mcauley is still in, he's back in the Army believe it or not, and he is still the "bring it on guy". In his 50's now, he's a better soldier than men half his age. He is planning on a tour of Afghanistan next year......thought you'd like to know.
