OTTAWA - Despite weeks of frantic activity and negotiation, Canada's Defence Department can only guess how much it will cost to fulfil the Manley report conditions that extend Canada's Afghan mission until 2011.

The Canadian government in the past has spent alot more than a couple hundred million on less worthy ventures.

How much did Chretien spend to cancel the EH 101 helos for the Navy? I'm fairly sure it was in the "couple hundred million" range and what did we have to show for that money?

    Nothing.

New Democrat defence critic Dawn Black said the extension of the mission to 2011 should never have been approved without some kind of financial forecast, especially since the federal surplus is expected to be razor-thin.

Thanks to an opposition bill(re education tax-shelters) pushed through the house to eliminate the surplus.

I think crooked face spend 500 million in cancellation costs on the 101. And since then 4 sea kings have crashed and claimed three lives.
