LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.
It always saddens me when the old acting greats pass away. They truly are the last of an era where acting actually MEANT acting...not relying on special effects to get across the screen. I was so upset when Gregory Peck and Katherine Hepburn passed on - they were two of my all time favourites.
RIP Mr Heston and thanks for all the great movies.
I guess now we can pry the gun from his cold dead fingers, eh?
what? You knew someone was going to say it.
RIP - he was a great actor.
Oooh, you totally went there.
\Soylent Green is PEOPLE!
He always got hit as moses but he's done so much more.
Omega man for instance..
**he will prolly take the guns with him**
RIP Mr. Heston
I didn't agree with his stance on guns but he was a great actor. RIP.
I agree.
But he was 84 and it sounds like he had Alzheimers. He died at home with his wife at his side - what more can you ask for?

My cousin met him when they were filming... Needful Things, I think... and when he introduced himself, he said, "Call me Chuck".
My cousin was thrilled - he told all of us that he'd met Moses.
You are thinking of Max Von Sydow (needful things).
Heston was a great actor.
A loss of an artist diminishes the world.
Now I feel like a dick wishing him dead all these years.. Even satan's got relatives.
That's pretty low.

I don't remember which movie it was... and Heston might not have been in it, he might have produced or directed.
Well, perhaps your cousin meant a different heston?
Fraser Clarke Heston

Dammit Lily, the only reason I came onto this thread was to say the exact same thing. Can I still call him a damn dirty ape?
RIP Mr Heston and thanks for all the great movies.
Some people outlive their time on Earth, this man was one of these people.
