Have people not gotten the word yet that you don't go sailing near the Somali coast?

Sorry, but the time has come to call in airstrikes on the pirates and to declare a maritime exclusion zone of one mile from the coast: anything that enters that zone should be seized or destroyed. Deny the pirates a port, and then deny them access to the seas and deny them a safe harbor for their prizes and they will find something else to do.

Tell you what, you hang a few pirates and the rest will get the idea that it is an unhealthy business.

It is no secret where the pirates are based and where they take their prizes.

Send in landing parties to free hostages and recover the ships and level those podunk ports--

True, better to sow the sand with their blood and perhaps something useful will arise in their place.

Mind you, there's a potential killing to be made (pun intended) for some independent naval protection service for ships that travel through the area.

Actually it is a very good idea that has been discussed on this site before. The problem is that it would be a short lived trick for a very large investment.

I think perhaps another solution is to goad the pirates into hijacking a Russian or Chinese ship and then letting those guys do all the wet work for us.
