I have to admit I'm perplexed by this one. I understand the Conservatives not giving a fig about this prick, but I'm surprised that the Libs never tried to get him back. I don't care if we get him back or not, but if we do, he should go into a dark hole and spend the rest of his days there.

I'm not. Had the Libs stayed in power, we'd never have heard from this kid again, nor would there be such a media frenzy over Afghanistan. Proof of that is the fact that both of these events really hit the media's attention only since the change in government. The Liberals can use this little murdering goof to embarass this government, otherwise he's as popular a topic as Arar was.

I hope Dallaire is choking because this must be the Liberal senate leash that's causing this.

One other thing that gets to me is the picture of this person.

The newspapers continually use THAT picture. He does NOT look like this now.

Why they won't show an updated picture, I have no idea. It looks like they are trying to paint this person as an innocent victim....Nothing to do with the subject but it bugs me!

I think it's fair to hear the opinion of one of the soldiers Khadr shot. Here's a link to the video.

The guy who submitted the Omar Khadr bio to wikipedia seems pretty pro-Omar, but it's worth reading between the lines in the first bit.

Although born in Canada, Khadr's mother defended raising the family outside Canada due to her fears of corrupting influences.

In 1988, Ahmed Said Khadr took a job with Canadian registered charity Human Concern International and moved his family to Peshawar, Pakistan. Omar was subsequently enrolled in an Islamic school in the city.

In 1992, Khadr's father stepped on a land-mine while in Lowgar, Afghanistan and nearly died; the Khadr family moved back to Toronto so he could recuperate. Once the family moved back to Toronto, Omar became "hypersensitive to tension in the family" and would often quote Captain Haddock from The Adventures of Tintin. Enrolled at ISNA Elementary School, Omar's teachers described him as "very smart, very eager and very polite".

Returning to Pakistan with his family...

I got a kick out of this bit too.

A later collection of biographies written by Al Qaeda praising fighters in the country mentions Omar in its article on his "martyred" father. It praises the elder Khadr for "tossing his little child in the furnace of the battle", and likens his son to a lion cub.

There is a difference between this goof and Arar, Arar was legally travelling and snatched, accused, and sent to a torturous prison.

Khadr was captured on the battle field and was armed and deservesto be held until this war is over as with all other terrorists are besides back in WWII he would have been put to death without so much as a second thought he is lucky he can still breathe!!!

Stokes: I just used him as an example of another Liberal emberassment that you heard little about untill after the election. They and their situations are very different so perhaps he was a bad choice.
