How many Canadians has Harper left stranded in jails around the world? I remember when you could travel knowing Canadian protection went with you.

I don't know, do you have a number since you think it's a relatively important issue?

How many Canadians have put themselves there on their own doing?

Well, all I can say I agree with his stance of the Montana fella on death row.

But as far as Canada goes, the politicans here in Canada have all lost their balls.

As a U.S. Citizen you can travel around the world know that your country has your back, as a Canadian not anymore.

she is not an investor in anything... she was paid severance by her employer who laundered money.. she wasnt aware of his dealings and he has signed a statement to say so... he was in a financial position to bargain withe the mexicans and is in a US jail.... I think the government is doing a piss poor job of helping this woman... doing little or nothing...

Canadians jsut should plainly NEVER go to Mexico.

So much for being able to go there and say "I'm Canadian" without getting stabbed...

sage advice from such a worldly traveler.

i just returned from mexico.. no problems ... you have to watch yourself.. keep your wits about ... but I think that applies anywhere ..even in the US..
I have travelled to Europe.. Russia , Finland, Sweden and alot of other places..... but I always felt that the Canadian Embassy was a beacon and I could call a consulate for help if I needed.... I have heard the minister respond to this matter on tv and it was unacceptable... she should resign..

thats what it says in the article

"Martin was the chef for Alyn Richard Waage, but was fired in 2001 with severance pay. She then invested that money into what she says she thought was Waage's legitimate investment company."

It kind of sounds like she was.

Not to be pessimistic here or anything but the drama surrounding this whole issue seems a bit over the top. I was watching her and her mother on the news earlier and wow 8O . Talk about drama. It kind of reminded of the "leave Brittany alone" video.

I kind of wonder if the Mexican authorities have some reason to suspect her. I do think they should charge her though and she should be entitle to a fair trail. I know she signed some kind of statement but according to her there was no translator present when she signed.

Like I said, I'm not trying to downplay the womans suffering but I tend to get a bit suspicious when I only hear one side of the story.
