Dan Gerak noticed the first signs in late November in the upper Pitt River Valley -- several big paw prints in the snow and the carcass of a black-tailed deer.

    In the past, coyote sightings were rare.....now they are common-place.

    Most nights in the summer, they can be heard howling and yipping out there.

    Close encounters are common.
