A Mississauga man who has been posting messages online supporting attacks against military targets in Canada should "absolutely" be prosecuted, the chairman of the Senate National Security and Defence Committee said Thursday.
I guess that depends on whether it's a Constitutional point or not. Law isn't, and shouldn't be completely malleable. Incitement is one thing, and we likely have laws to cover it. But I don't cracking down on the Internets sets a good precedent for democracy.
Free speech does not extend to callls for murder, treason and insurection. This sedition by any standard. The Senator is stating the obvious.

Of course the kid's an idiot.
BS he is a student in his 20's in an institution of higher learning. He is not an impressionable kid but rather and educated adult.....who should act more responsibly. He should get a plane ride of the way back to Bagladesh. To somewhere over the Arabian Sea---perhaps.
The kids words are no more seditious than what we see around here all too often. If anything, he is at least honest in posting his genuine thoughts whereas too many people on this site waffle and prevaricate and pose as "patriots" all while advocating polices that would directly cause soldiers to die.
If that kid should be prosecuted then Streaker, Avro, Hurley, OPP, and etc. had best head for the hills.
And as much as I utterly disagree with those people on this kind of issue, I would take greater umbrage at their being prosecuted for not parroting the proper party line.

I'm honestly curious as to what policies I've advocated for here that would cause soldiers to die, short of believing that the dangerous, life-threatening job they're doing over in Afghanistan is a just and right one and that I hope the Army continues to do it, as I stated a few days ago.
I agree with the senator on this one...this persons post are anti Canadian and racist and were directed at the Canadian Military with mal intent...advocating the killing of our troups is a crime and as such he should be charged.... actually he should be deported ... even if he was born here....

My comment was NOT meant to be a criticism or an attack. The folks I listed are dissenting voices (in general) and if this Senator gets his way there will be a new Human Rights Commission kind of witch hunt to persecute people who say or post things that the government majority doesn't like.
I may not always agree with what you say, but I damn well don't want to see you silenced because if you get silenced I know I'll be next.

a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, this kid...'educated adult' what have you probibaly saw a few specials on television, read a few websites and has decided to ruffle a few feathers.

Senator: If the law doesn't support my position, it should be re-written. What?
How is that not the basis of all lawmaking, though? People don't like the way things are, feel they should be different, and change the law.

I think we're agreeing on something again.
The Pentagon is already wargaming situations in which bloggers are seen as terrorists.

The EU is already working on legislation which implicitly regards free speech as a threat to security.

this kid needs to be either punished or learn that its not canadian to say such things and what he said was very disrespectful to our military .
and i bet he's never worn a poppy either .
