FORWARD OPERATING BASE WILSON, Afghanistan - Abandoned in the village of Sangisar after a fierce firefight a month ago, two tiny puppies have found a safe haven with Canadian troops at this remote base in the volatile Zhari district.
Good idea, we did the same thing back in 1986 in Cyprus. The dog stayed at the platoon house and troops took turns caring for him. They even kept the MP's from coming out to kill "our" dog with the threat of violence towards MP's.
Yeah I recall a rear echelon type doing a routine inspection of a fire-base-----making the determination that a similar dog was against regs. When he encountered resistance to that notion he approached the tied dog and reached for his side-arm------to the accompaniment of the sound of a dozen or so rifles being cycled..........Dog was fine....
