Interesting point. I bet that most folks never really looked at it that particular way.

I look back at it as a twofold event. One was the obvious tragedy of the lives lost to an episode of psychotic, evil, and hate-filled rage. The second event, that unfolded over the course of years, was the feminist slandering of men generally and of gun-owners specifically. Lepine led to hysterical media over-reaction, which led to the pure demonization of anyone who owns any sort of firearm, which led to gutless politicians falling all over themselves to placate the panic-mongers, which led to a massive increase in the size of government with the creation of the Firearms Registry bureacracy, which ended up wasting about $2 billion dollars, and which (finally - sort of) does absolutely nothing at all to reduce crime, make the streets safer (see innocents like Jane Creba, may they all RIP), take illegal guns out of the hands of criminals, punish the guilty, or result in any of the benefits that the "experts" told us were surely bound to happen. Not trying to start a flame war or nothing, but to me all this seems like kind of a half-assed memorial to the fallen of that day.

Definitely an episode where "Canada" should have much more correctly been spelled "Cana-duh".

A Catholic who hated feminism is Canada's first islamofascist terrorist attack?

How about you spend some trucker time actually researching what it is you're barfing crap about and maybe you'll see what we see in you. I'm kind of hoping you 'll do this before you stomp angrily around the truck stop, punching newspaper boxes or kicking your racy mudflaps.

Reading his suicide note, it's clear what kind of mental state he was in (despite his claims to the contrary).

That he destroyed the lives of intelligent young women in reaction to his own miserable failings is truly a disgrace.

    I guess I kicked over a leftist icon.........Sunera Thobani's favourite subject.

Marc Lepine was a psuedenum. An assumed name,(alias) linked to his mother's maiden name.

Gamal Gharbi doesn't sound very pure laine catholic to me.

    Marc Lépine (October 26, 1964 – December 6, 1989), born Gamil Gharbi

Why, Sasquatch, "Gamil Ghabi" is as Catholic as Father Paddy O'Hara is!

Gamil's father had contempt for women and believed that they were only intended to serve men.

    Sounds perfectly halal to me.

Seriously, while there's no evidence that Ghabi/Lepine was much of a practicing Muslim or Catholic, his attitudes certainly did hail from his fathers cultural background.

The key issue here is that his alien ancestry and real name were suppressed for several reasons.

His real identity and ancestry while largely irrellevant, were suppressed:

to prevent a backlash against a LIBRANO favourite agenda....multiculturalism.

to further a justification of a feminist agenda by Sunera Thobani and Heddy Fry and funding of questionable "womens studies" in universities Canada-wide.

to justify further onerous firearms legistlation with the ultimate goal of totally banning private firearms ownership.

As evidenced in this forum----that suppression is still in force.

samsquantch is one of the biggest bigots and ignoramuses on the board - he's a joke and an instigator.

Lepine was a Catholic (not a Muslim) and pitiful loser that blamed his problems on feminists, women and society. This has little to do with islamofascism (which is a favorite of the wannabe intellectual crowd) and more to do with a sad little miscreant that couldn't solve his own problems so he resorted to homicidal destruction instead.

To bad he's also right on this topic.

This shooting has been torqued all out of shape to push an agenda and much of the facts or details of the criminal have never been told.

Who is on topic, oh cryptic one? I hope you're not actually suggesting the whackjob idea that the Montreal Massacre was an act of Islamofascism.

    Bart,

Don't be so disingenuous. The very article you cite also says: Lépine was born Gamil Rodrigue Gharbi, the son of Algerian immigrant Rachid Liass Gharbi and Canadian Monique Lépine, in Montreal and was baptized a Catholic as an infant.

By all accounts, Lepine's father was an asshole, but I haven't read an article yet that stated he was a asshole. With a whopping 99% of Algeria being Muslim, it's a safe bet. But, thanks to the French, there's Catholics in Algeria too. Wait a titsch, maybe THAT explains how his father came to be married to a French Roman-Catholic!

Just an idea for you all, especially Truckersquatch2, to deal with.

Moving on, nothing in Lepine's madness was based on Islam. He was just an asshole misogynist with a rifle and a life that lasted one day too long.

For fuck sakes can't you just let those women rest in peace. If you can't just honor the intent of the day, how about just shutting the fuck up
