A federal ethics committee has issued a summons to Karlheinz Schreiber to testify Thursday at a probe into his dealings with former prime minister Brian Mulroney, but a jurisdictional squabble is threatening that appearance.

Okay let's say that Harper has been found guilty of lying in regards to his office and himself seeing the letter that Schreiber sent to the PMO's office..would this be grounds for something similar to impeachment..is it possible for a prime minister to be impeached??

Wrong country! In the US the presidency is a separate branch of government.

In Canada, the PM is merely the leader of the government. The equivalent is a vote of NO CONFIDENCE.....you have to bring the government down. That's why the LIBRANOs were bullet-proof with their majority----they could even dictate the results of a judicial inquiry and did. That's why Cretin is still loose and not in the crowbar mansion.

No doubt Scheiber had dealings with the LIBRANOs before and after Mulrooney. Pierre La Porte posting bail for Schreiber is highly indicative of a close relationship. It would be interesting to see the result of an inquiry into that. Cretin no longer commands an atmosphere of immunity.

    etanas ? 2 posts ?

anyways that letter is not grounds for too much , its simply a letter schreiber sent to all parties i believe , the serious allegations being looked at involve mulroney and stuff he might of did a decade ago .

but myself i'm concerned the inquiry is being ignored at an opposition quest to try and find things to make harper look bad, like why are we rushing here , why not wait for inquiry ?

and even if schreiber leaves he can always come back or appear via satelite tv from germany .

The bottom line is Shreiber is only intent on not being deported to Germany. Basically he is extorting a delay from the opposition.

If he does testify and says what he knows he looses his leverage.

If he does testify and what he says is BS he looses his leverage.

The opposition will not get what they seek---true or not---and Shreiber gets deported.

myself i think this testimony on thursday will turn into nothing more than a media frenzy desperate to connect harper to this thing with whatever despearte testimony schreiber spits out .

not sure a commitee will do a good job , but media doesn't care as it will sell papers and boost tv ratings .

Notice that there are very few of the hard core Liberal hacks in these threads? There are few enough liberal MP's who want to go on record supporting this also.

Poor Germany must be shaking their heads over this one.
They have him on solid criminal charges yet the Libs want him to stay, based on no evidence, on some political witch hunt.

also think there is not alot of interest in public at this time of year for political bs , its almost christmas and people are busy .

why rush this silly commitee now ? even if schreiner is deported he can always come back or appear thru digital ways , its 2007 he doesn't have to appear in person , a tv or satellite fed would work . its done on tv everyday .
why could that option not be used here ?
