Liberals narrowing gap with Tories

The beauty in this is that, as an Ipsos-reid poll, the numbers reported inflate Conservative support. The real gap between the Libs and Cons is much narrower.

the polls are early and after all the mulroney thing we shouldn't be surprised .

but was surprised when i actually clicked on poll and gap between the two is still 10 points .

so i'd hardly say the liberals have narrowed the gap by much .

With Dion as the Liberal leader, polls should be strong for the Conservatives.

I would definitely fear the Liberals with Ignatieff at the helm. But it brings up the power of the Liberal brand name and that many "liberals" would vote Liberal even if led by a slightly effeminate crybaby!

I was reading in "The Beaver" about a mega scandal in 1926, which involved Mackenzie King's francophone cabinet ministers. In inquiry revealed, bribes, graft, participation on smuggling (liquor), ministerial interference in the courts, the customs department interfering with RCMP enforcement...etc.

The corruption involved the Department of Custom and excise, and the Department of Justice at the highest levels.

The Tories backed by the puritanical prairie Progressives succeeded in getting a committee to investigate.

This brought down the government but Mackenzie King got a majority by running on a "hidden agenda" platform.....the Canadian electorate was indifferent to the corruption simply because of the roaring twenties attitude.

The more things change the more they remain the same.

However King was forced to clean house---although no-one went to prison. The corrupt chief customs officer (Jaques Bisaillon) of Montreal was put in the senate.

Won't matter a rats ass when the broke and demoralized liberal campaign workers get pissed off at trudging through the snow and chuck all the pamplets in the garbage at the local tim hortons.
Everybody knows most of the folks who vote Liberal will already be in Florida or Mexico and won't even know there's an election because the CBC dosen't reach that far.

Not to worry - even if the stilted poll is correct - it is nothing but a temporary stat and state - the only thing the LPC should worry about is closing the gap between their teeth - for obvious reasons. . . .
