After living in Vancouver for over 50 years the solution is painfully obvious to anyone who has the "guts" to speak up...!! Stop the violence at the source.... we need a far more stringent immigration policy from Ottawa ,AND ONCE IN PLACE..DO THE RIGHT THING AND ENFORCE IT..!!!

Bring back a curfew, have the police walking the beat again. For crimes as such you put them away for there natural life. No computers, no golf, no luxury. Why don't we free trade and send them to another Country. I would imagine there are Countries that would take them for a small fee. You get caught with a weapon spend sometime. If the crime is done by a non-canadian simple send them back. Some crime maybe we should take a look at how other Countries deal and quit giving theses criminals a slap on the hands.

It is time to deport violent newcomers. We need laws to strip the citizenship of people not born in Canada who commit violent acts. We also need longer prison time for Canadian born violent criminals. The Swiss want to bring in a law that would deport the whole family if one of the kids becomes a criminal. That would work here too. We also need a complete moratorium on immigration until the current mess is sorted out.

One commenter here is correct. We HAVE TO bring back the Death penalty. Is that too absurd these days? For every criminal that's trial and found guilty of first degree murder - e.g. gang style execution, pedophile rape and murder, all first degree murderers should be put to death. If this law is established, it will send a serious message to the underground criminal world. Locking them up is good but it takes up space and requires resources. The recent Con Air deal is one of the best ideas to come out of the vancouver police dept. We, as residents of a beautiful city is sick and tired of a justice system that is not capable of making this city safe for the people to live in. Bring back the death penalty! If not, then seriously deal with gangs and guns! We are sick of it!

Do the gangs differentiate between pot or crack, prostitution or counterfeit goods? No, because those are just the tools to money and they will hurt, cripple or kill who they need to to get that money.

Lily: You're right, there was no mention of drugs but if they were spoiled hockey players or gun nuts, would that make any real difference?
On the way home from work I heard one thing that was encoraging: One of the arms dealers for the HA and other gangs was given 9 years in jail. Ok, that's still only around 4 years but the last maximum sentance was 8 years, so it's still a bit better.

They also mentioned that the police were looking for more money to fight this crime (as always). He's my suggestion: Find a gun or drugs in the car, sieze it and sell it as proceeds of crime.
We can't put them behind bars so maybe we can make it unprofitable to commit crimes in BC.
