Certain President's Choice and Taylor Farms brand salad kits are being recalled in Canada over concerns of a Listeria contamination, stemming from a deadly outbreak in the U.S.

It's unreal how often salad kits in general end up on recall.

Never buy pre cut veg, This is exactly why. They don't give the workers bathroom break, so they shit where they work and you eat where they shit. And bagging it lets the cuy leaves absorb all that e-coli and staff aureas. And you generally eat salad raw.

Whole veg isn't immune, but you can wash it off before you eat it.

I haven't bought any of those kits or other versions of pre-cut veggies in years. We don't even buy any type of lettuce if it's from the USA because of the frequencies of contamination. The only lettuce we buy is from a local greenhouse in Delta and it's a "living" head of butter lettuce with the root still attached. It comes in a clamshell and I've had a head stored for as much as 10 days in the fridge. I just moisten the root part as needed and rarely are there leaves, or parts of, that I have to toss. We only use it for when we make sandwiches. The downside is the price as, at best, on sale, it's $4.99. I do still rinse the leaves as I need them but I have much more confidence that there are not the same risks.
