Shoplifting has surged to an alarming level across Canada, industry insiders say, with inflation and labour shortages cited as major factors behind the increase.

    No surprise that it has gotten worse recently. In the strip mall where I work there have been incidences at the grocery and drug store where people have bolted with a cart full of stuff and that was several months ago.

    It's a part of the job I really hate, having to watch customers, but I have even caught a couple of them in action stealing stuff and trying to hide it.
