Girl Guides of Canada plans to rename Brownies, saying that it has heard from several current and former members that the name causes harm.

When I hear brownies I think of the yummy chocolate dessert bars. LOL. I'd almost forgotten about the different levels of girl guides so I never thought about how the names might be a bother to some though with this it has nothing to do with actual colour. Sigh.

Critics of the change say the origin of the name has nothing to do with race. Brownies are fairies in Scottish folklore.

I never got to do the Girl Guide thing though when I was in elementary school there were certainly many classmates I had who did. I guess it was expensive or some other reason it was denied to me.
