The Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C. is issuing a warning about the use of glue traps, after seeing an uptick in admissions related to the pest control method.
Glue traps are only for indoors! I really don’t understand the need people seem to have to want to remove animals and pests from the outside. My garden has all sorts of pests that are considered bad. I move slugs out of the way. I’m trying to get my hands on milk weed seeds for butterflies. We’re losing the bugs here. I have to drive north to get bugs on the windshield. Stupid people are destroying the world. This is just a continuous of the stupid process.
Had a guy rent the place across the street who warned everyone he was going to trap cats if he caught them in his yard. Had to tell him if I saw a trapped cat I would take a picture, trespass and free it and call the cops to charge him with animal cruelty. He got quite uppity. Told him to squirt them with the hose, that wasn't cruelty and they remember and don't come back.
Meanwhile, the bear is resuming it's 6th year of destroying fences and spreading garbage. It's learned that garbage day is Tues and Weds on the other side of the creek. We'll have to teach it to strike between 9am and 4pm Mon-Fri when Conservation Officers work....
When my neighbours' cat got in my yard, I just yelled at it and whacked the side of my house with a broom to scare it away. Mom used to let my sister and I pour salt on the slugs in her garden when we were kids.
It took me less than five minutes to find the David Suzuki Foundation's list of eco-friendly ways to keep cats out of your yard.
As for coyotes, not only would messing with them probably be a bad idea even if you didn't have any housepets with you, but I think they keep the local rabbit population down in my part of St. Albert.
