A Halloween decoration installed outside a Montreal home is sparking debate about how-far-is-too-far, with some critics saying it crosses the line between scary and distasteful.

I completely understand why this has caused debate.

Be a lot more disturbing if it started twitching and gave out little squeaks of "help me!".

I think it is extremely realistic, and want to see more people put in that kind of effort.

And it absolutely should twitch once in a while.

If the dummy was depicted as a Black person, it should definitely be taken down.

Since it's not, and in fact looks like a white guy, I think it should stay.

    Seriously?

So, it's ok for a "white" guy to be hung but not someone of "colour"?

Only to the extent that the imagery of Black people being hanged has an fraught history in the United States, with nooses being hung from trees in racist threats towards real Black Americans.

I'm referring specifically to if the dummy had been made to look like a Black person. Since it's not, leave it up.

I shouldn't have said "in fact looks like a white guy"-that was my fuckup. If it were my decoration, I probably would have made it a skeleton just to avoid this kind of fallout.
