Mikhail Gorbachev, who ended the Cold War without bloodshed but failed to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union, died on Tuesday at the age of 91, Russian news agencies cited hospital officials as saying.
Last of the old giants who actually changed the world for the better, simply by seeing that a certain system had failed completely & had to end, and didn't make things worse by doubling-down on it. Almost impossible now to imagine there's a single leader anywhere who possesses even the slightest bit of the wisdom & foresight Gorbachev had.
Soviet President, but seemed like one of the good guys.
Tried his best to bring Russia out of the shadow of the Cold War and turn it into democracy.
