Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was giving a speech in the city of Nara ahead of an election for the upper house of Parliament, NBC News reports.
"DrCaleb" said That is a shame. He seemed like a good guy.
I wouldn't go that far. He refused to recognize Japanese atrocities during WW2. He was a pretty hard right nationalist. Obviously didn't deserve this, but I wouldn't say he was an especially good guy.

Regardless of his politics, he was scandal free. He did not hide his politics. Which makes him a big leap ahead of most politicians in the G7. He seemed like a guy you could trust, even if you didn't agree with him.
I guess the only social benefit from a politician in Japan being shot is that the culture over there doesn't immediately jump to a "the JOO$/Soros/Agenda21/WEF/Hillary Clinton/etc did it!" mode the way it absolutely would here in North America. The Japanese are all correctly "looks like one of our incredibly fucked-up otakus finally snapped" and are OK with leaving it at that. Slightly reassuring that not all places on this planet are as hopelessly screwed up as our zone is.

I don't know why any extremest causes me to wonder anymore. I should just assume that their reasoning will fail.
FYI:
Otaku: a Japanese word that describes people with consuming interests, particularly in anime, manga, video games, or computers.
It's no different than someone who likes Guns or Sports, or anything else that we'd deem a sub-culture.
