Some animal rescue groups fear countless dogs will die of starvation or be killed if they are not allowed entry into Canada as a result of a recently announced policy.
OK. I'm torn on this one. As much as I love animals and hate the idea of animals suffering, why are we importing dogs from other countries when our shelters here are filled with dogs that need homes?
I had the same thought but then me and my SO saw a little floof with the happiest face ever and we adopted him all the way from Taiwan. He had all his shots and has the documentation to prove it. So if dogs can prove that they e had their shots, I don’t see why it should be an issue.
Yeah I’m of two minds on this one as well. I get that people want to save them all but it’s not possible. The money spent transporting them could be used in that country to help the groups there with fixing and getting vaccines. Last thing we need here is more rabies. Other than that longer quarantines to verify that they don’t have rabies would be needed.
I'm just wondering why those most concerned aren't volunteering to help expidite the from these places. My concern over their pets is kind of secondary....
or maybe they're the PETA wing of the Convoy crowd.

Because of the living conditions that puppy parents have to endure, and conditions the puppies have to endure to get here. Having shots isn't nearly enough to make up for that.
I would much rather have a dump rescue dog (and do!) that had to have extensive shots, than knowing how that puppy came to Canada. Too many people want their adorable pug, etc., without considering the costs.
Everyone has this weird idea about pets now. Posts up in the local supermarket bulletin board etc. people selling puppies for absurd prices, I have friends who've paid $800 - $1200 for dogs, no papers but all sold as purebreds, no shots, no tatoos or chips not neutered... pups and kittens we gave away to responsible owners all my life. Just about taking money from the hands of fools these days. Its about $400 from your local shelter (last I heard), my dog got the vet special: All shots, tatoo, nutted all pup care and follow ups for first year included for $500
I gave my friend shit for paying $600 for an unpapered unvaxxed 'purebred' BIG dog cuz he's too old to care for it. Kept it tied up on the porch on a 20ft rope and sleeps in it's original carry kennel. So after a year, he decided he needed another that it would train to be good. $750 no papers, no shots, another 20ft rope. Then it was a $750 and a whole 2 days drive/kennelling to bring them to get nutted. He comes here for coffee. We can't go there cuz the dogs would knock you off your feet as you negotiate a 20 ft minefield of dog shit to get to his door. Hillbillies.

I got my cat from the Humane Society, $60, and on sale! She had been around nearly 18 months.
They were giving them away here at the Humane Society this week... vaccinated, chipped and spayed/neutered.
