Amazon Union Organizer Sends Message to Bezos After Historic Vote

Workers of the world unite! One down, many more to go.

Unfortunately its not one down, not by a long shot. Voting for the union is just the first step in a long, LONG process. Employers would obviously rather that the employees not vote for the union. When they do vote for the union, the employer resorts to plan B, which is the stall. Take where I work for example: we voted to go union seven years ago. We still do not have a contract. We have not had a raise in over seven years now. When employees vote to go union they go into what is called status quo. No changes in working conditions can occur without a contract. Pay cannot go up or down. Benefits cannot change. I still pay the same for my medical benefits as I did seven years ago,but the plan is the same. Non union employees may pay a few dollars more for their medical plan, but their plan is far superior. Their co pays are far lower. They can get an out patient surgery for $100 vs. $1000 for our plan. The amount of money that they have to pay out of pocket per year is far less. They may hit the ceiling at $2000 where we are at $8000. Employers do this on purpose to stir up shit between the union sides and the non union sides of the house. They print up brochures showing the plans every year at benefit enrollment time. The people stuck in status quo see how they are getting fucked hard by their plans. New employees who were not working there when the union vote happened start bitching about the union, about how it is causing us to get screwed. Older employees get tired of not getting raises and they move to other properties that pay a lot more. The union looks like the bad guy to the newer employees, and they call for a vote to decertify the union. Its a union busting trick, and it works. Several casinos in town have voted to go union only to have another vote years later to decertify the union because the employees are stuck in limbo.

It has happened to several casinos in town already. Almost all of them are stations casinos. They have also sold off other casinos that voted to go union, and they have refused to reopen three casinos that they closed during the mass shutdown of 2020 for covid. Two of the ones that remain closed were just up the street from me. I used to go there all the time to eat and watch movies (almost all of our movie theaters, bowling alleys, and ice skating rinks are located inside casinos here). Thousands of long term employees who gave everything for the company have permanently lost their jobs. Just as hard as the unions work,the other side is not sitting still. They bring in lawyers who specialize in union busting. They know every trick and create new ones every day. Sad to say but certain companies in Las Vegas are at the forefront when it comes to union busting. I am sure that Amazon executives have already booked their stay in Vegas to learn from the best when it comes to union busting.

Well I am calling bullshit on this "great victory". 8325 people were eligible to vote. Only 2654 people out of 8325 people voted for the union. That is not even 32% of the people working there voting for the union. This "victory" will never stand. The talking head stated that these workers pulled this off without any help from any national union. That is because no national union would ever waste their time getting involved in something where not even 32% of the workers support the union. My national union stated that we would have to have 75% of our workers sign union cards before they would take it to a vote. That was seven years ago and we still do not have a contract. Seven years ago with a professional national union (with a team of lawyers ) that know what they are doing. These ham and eggers stand zero chance of pulling this off. They do not know what they are doing. They have zero national support (as in money to fight in court), and they can't even get 32% of the workers to vote for the union. Goliath is just getting started.

I don't trust ANY numbers put out by amazon at this point.

These are numbers on record that you can verify. 15% of the Dems and ZERO of the GQP support Unions. The game is rigged from the start.

Edit: I should add that the politics of cowards is what is ruling the leadership class. They are not going to endorse Unions unless they have to. The fundamental problem here is the youth and gig economy workers who are the backbone of the economy that have been told they don't have a choice have seen the bullshit for what it is. Trillions in bailout for the corps heads and NOTHING for them. They are treated like DOGS and expected to take it or leave it. Now, with the labour market stalling and supply chains backed up because of COVID the abuse of power is plain for all to see.

They can't even DREAM of not squeezing the life out of the worker for every cent because to this point there has been ZERO pushback and they exploit the worker for everything. FUCK THEM. Unionize all of it. They are animals who do not deserve to be treated as equals but as the hostile actors of a real free market society and enemies of democracy that they are.
