This is what Microsoft thinks of it's user base. You are there to service them, they are not here to let you use the assets you have purchased. They won't explain things like why they bypass any second operating system you have installed. They won't explain why they force you to make and sign in with an online account to your local machine. They won't detail what information they collect on you, or allow you to stop the collection.
I've used Firefox since v 1.0 Used to infuriate me the BC Gov't took until 2013 to switch to it, they used to insist on IE6 with a full manual of mods for security. Made thousands setting that up. But they've probably switched to Chrome cuz you know Chrome is just so good, Jesus would use Chrome if you use Chrome Microsoft doesn't spy on you, Chrome is faster! We put Chrome on the whole office - see the blue circle on all the deaktops that says Chromium underneath it? And it comes with all this other stuff free... Driver Destroyer, File Perverter..etc etc
FFS I've designed hundreds of websites, test them exclusively with Firefox and add it to every single computer I set up, work on or rebuild. They can take it off if they don't like it and most of them do cuz grandson Billy in Grade 9 who knows so much about computers said it's no good.
I even use FF more on the Macs than Safari, just used to it on PC, Linux... was the first thing I added to my Raspberry Pi. Why use a different browser.. I use umpteen computers and OSs every day. And I've truned hundreds onto Thunderbird instead of the (let's call everything in the Microsoft univers "Outllok" to confuse people)
Save passwords, use same program since forever to migrate settings, no Cloud bullshit. I confess though, I do have Chrome on this laptop. With cookies disabed, strictly for reading online newspapers. And Brave, Opera and several others - for testing websites and seeing what they're all about. And I do use the new Chromium based Edge - more often than I use Google Chrome itself.
BTW Grandsom Billy's the same one who learned from machine testing that 1/2 a blink if the eye is so much better than 6/10ths of e blink of an eye and can tell you it's exactly 3:46 but goes blank in the face if you say 'quarter to four'.
Microsoft changed the way you set default browsers in the newer Win10 and all of Win 11. Instead of going into the 'Settings' and changing the default 'Browser' or 'Emails' to your choice, you have to go through the 'extensions' list, and change '.html' to 'Firefox' etc., for each of the dozens of extension it will use. The average user won't do this, so if it hits an extension sill linked to Edge, then Edge will open and will ask to become your default browser again.
If you want to use 'Edge', it will do all the extension changes for you. This is what Firefox has cracked, now it will change everything itself like Edge does.
Already getting calls asking if their 13 year old laptop will run Windows 11... and they're all so upset they'll buy a new one to show Bill Gates who's boss! I will end up with 11 on my work machine when it happens and I have to, not before. Might take part of a day to get used to it. FF will remain the default browser.
