Isn't this what everyone wanted? No police.. no rules? Rather that demanding that the Police are de-funded, demand that the Police are trained properly.

And people are only asking that funds be removed from police for things they aren't trained to do. Like Wellness checks. And that money goes to people who are trained for those things.

But keeping two groups from shooting at each other, they are actually supposed to be trained for that. That's why they get all the military style equipment.

If you get a nutjob with a rifle threatening people, you send in the SWAT team.

If you get a mentally ill person who needs checking on, you send properly trained mental health experts along with the police, instead of just police...and the police are there only to deal with violence. Otherwise you end up with the dozens of calls over the past few years where a mentally ill gets shot or dragged through a building by cops. You know, like these two cases:

The notion that defund the police means get rid of them is simply another outright Big Lie repeated by the alt-right over and over again until people believe it is true.
However, if someone comes at people with a gun or knife, the cops job is still to stop them - shoot them if necessary, not call a bloody social worker.

As for the PPB, maybe it doesn’t need to be refunded, but it does need to be either disbanded or taken over by the state or federal government. The police in Portland have shown time and time again that they are completely on the side of the Proud Boys and the other right-wing military cosplayers who riot in Portland every month. And now they’re not doing their jobs because they’re butthurt because they’re getting called out for their awfulness.

To be more accurate there a lots on the hard left who don't want the police defunded. They want the police to be abolished altogether. And if you think I'm joking about this then consider this aspect - some white liberal people, a lot of them in fact, are so anti-police that they actually want the police dog character from the Paw Patrol children's cartoon to be removed and forgotten because they think the sight of the character would cause too much "distress" for children from communities that have too many negative interactions with the law. And also because "all cops are bastards", according the the left wing element of the safest & most-comfortable white people in the world.

This is how dumb it's gotten over the last year, since George Floyd was murdered. It's not about reforming police to reduce the number of excessively violent police responses to ridiculously mundane incidents, which should be a perfectly laudable goal in the mind of any reasonable or decent person. It's now openly some sort of social engineering over-reach by the usual asinine limousine liberals and trust-fund white kids in Antifa to obliterate policing altogether. Like, what the hell is so fucking wrong in these Twitter-warriors minds that they not only believe this is what has to be done but that they'll assemble in their multitudes to bitch & riot in order to get their way?

This is the sort of shit that gets monsters like Donald Trump elected. The people pushing these fucked up ideas know it too, but they just don't care because to them it's ideology & dogma first, over each and every other vitally important social consideration.
