One long-standing fact of Alberta history is that no political party that's lost power has ever regained it. I wouldn't be surprised if Rachel Notley breaks that trend and wins the next election.
I keep thinking that Alberta's politics are going to become more like those of the other Western provinces, where the provincial NDP keeps rotating in and out of government and trading sides of the legislature with a conservative opposition.
