First bottles of Chernobyl spirits seized by Ukrainian authorities

The first shipment of a spirit drink made from apples grown near the Chernobyl nuclear plant have been seized by Ukrainian security services for unknown reasons, according to the company that produces it.

I would be very hesitant to try this.

They created the Chernobyl Spirit Company after they discovered that slightly radioactive products from the zone could be distilled to make spirits with nearly undetectable radioactivity levels.

It's the type of radiation, not the amount. Radioactive Iodine is much worse than Uranium 238 because of the intensity.

A banana has undetectable radioactivity levels... I could not find in the article what the level is for the spirits, though.

The article talks about "apples" used to make the vodka, but the bottle is labelled "grain spirit". The article had a link to a related story on CTV News website:

This one describes the spirit made of grains. And...
According to researchers, there was some radioactivity found in the grain used to distill the single bottle of vodka—aptly named “Atomik”—but, because distilling reduces any impurities in the original grain, the final product only registers Carbon-14 at the same level you would expect in other spirits.

A quick Google found the distiller's website:

Our first production of ATOMIK Apple Spirit has been seized by Ukrainian security services for reasons unclear to us. We are working hard to get it released, but we can't sell you anything yet.

Ukrainian and British scientists had shown that slightly radioactive products from the zone could be distilled to make spirits with levels of Chernobyl radioactivity below what they could measure. However, their first small-scale experimental production has been seized by Kyiv City Prosecutors following a Ukrainian Security Services (SBU, Ukraine’s secret services) investigation.

Oh, I see one of the problems. They have grain spirit, and apple spirit. But it was apple spirit that was seized. The CTV article just used the wrong image.
