The German automaker's cars will soon be upgradeable via over-the-air updates — though missed payments could mean deactivation of those same features

I had no idea they could come up with a way for me to not want their product even harder!

Mercedes: "Our cars have the reputation for massive depreciation.:

    BMW: "Halte mein Bier"

Being able to pay more for the sake of trivial or putrid vanities is the sign of a superior person, or so I've been told my entire life by this mentally-ill atrocity of a society I live in. If they aren't better than everyone else then why did Jesus' Dad bless them with so much money and so many toys? Therefore BMW are more than encouraged to pay double via subscription for something that used to be included in the final sale price. Fuck them, fuck their money, fuck their shallowness of character, and I hope anyone who can afford a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, or any other hyper-pretentious phallus-mobile gets COVID and dies puking up their lungs.

Sort of like that fancy sat radio that was 'free' with my car? For a year then they wanted triple Netflix' fee to listen to 100 channels of 3 hour loops...
the there's the ppl like me with enough Scot blood to have to fight like hell to overcome the 'just get what you NEED...' cursing that I cheaped out and didn't get remote locks and windows, bluetooth.... stalling buying a new 3400G and B450 board for 6 months because the old 2009 Athlon "still works"....
    BMW can bite my crank

If you think a 2009 Athlon "still works" you don't use your computer  I'd kill both myself and my computer within 30 minutes of using that.

Anyone who buys a luxury car is financially illiterate, because they cost a bloody fortune to repair and maintain and still depreciate like every other car out there.

People buy these things for braggings rights and it's why so many people live pay cheque to pay cheque.

Offer a deal for $1 for every time a BMW owner uses a turn signal. They might earn $5 back over their lifetime.

I don't game at all and the i5 in the other room is no better at web design, going online or Desktop publishing whatsoever.
But you got a point. The Raspberry Pi has the same RAM with 4 cores and can now goot from SSD...

This is nothing more than a tax on stupidity implemented by a company who thinks that their name alone justifies all cost excesses.

Just watch how over the next decade every company figures a way to get a recurring fee from customers.
Look how Internet TV went from cheaper to a collection of providers just like cable/satellite "bundles" but $15.99 a month instead of $5.00

very much. Reading different articles on this, it seems like BMW will do an OS update, and retroactively apply microtranactions to it's already existing services. Auto dimming high beams, heated seats, adaptive cruise; could all be subscription based.

I think they should make turn signals pay-as-you go. They'd likely owe some BMW drivers money after that one.

Unless you have a 335 from 2008 that I bought in 2011 for $20k lease buy back program. Still have it, only has 75K Km on it...I love it, solid car with 300 HP twin turbo (when one sucks the other blows!) lol

You can have a 'luxury' car and not be a financial idiot. But you have to look for the deals. Buying ANY car new is very poor judgement in my opinion, as soon as you drive it off the lot it is now worth 15% less than what you paid for it.

I have never bought a new vehicle in my life and never will.
