Terrified dogs and cats crammed into rusty cages. Bats and scorpions offered for sale as traditional medicine. Markets in China are operating as usual.

Not much if we're talking wet markets and not exotic wildlife animal markets. Here's a good article explaining the difference and why the Chinese gov't has to shut one down and invest in the other.
SHANGHAI —
As some media outlets cover the coronavirus, journalists are mixing up wet markets and wildlife markets. But most wet markets are not wildlife markets, and confusing the two is dangerous.
“Wet” markets are what China calls its fresh food markets, the kind you see all over the developing world and in many parts of Europe, where small stalls sell fresh vegetables and butchers sell meat, primarily pork. They are the daily market for tens of millions of Chinese who prefer to talk to the people who sell them produce, meat, seafood and tofu, and in small cities, are often the only outlet for small-scale farmers who can’t meet the supplier requirements for supermarkets. (Still, it’s important to differentiate: Most wet markets, especially in big cities, may look like farmers markets but are buying from the same wholesale suppliers as supermarkets.)
But if it was caused by these "wet markets" then we'd better start getting ready for the next wave of viruses because there's no way in hell the Chinese gov't can shut them down and still feet their population.
Unfortunately once again the mainstream media has locked onto an incorrect term and run with it.
The Chinese government though could regulate their market to force them to no longer provide the sort of possibly-infected bushmeat known to cause epidemics. And in general vigourously inspect them for safety, hygiene, and general sanitation. But they won't. Not that they can't, but because the Capitalist Communists that run the damn country are so fucking corrupt that the responsible officials are probably being quite well paid by the merchants in those markets to look the other way.
You know what's going to be the most fucked up thing to realize when the pandemic is over? That despite the opportunity it's providing to make the world better by getting rid of as many obsolete and corrupt practices as possible, and all across the planet too not just in countries like China, it'll go back to the traditional business-as-usual in the blink of an eye. The chances to change will be ignored, and then forgotten altogether, and it's back to the "I'm all right, Jack, keep your hands off of my stack" mentality that's brought the human race to the lowest ethical and moral level it's ever sunk to. The deaths from coronavirus are merely the first of twin tragedies, the other one will be the return to the general assholery that's become the most obvious hallmark of our ridiculous and doomed species.
Tucker Carlson found a Chinese study that put forward a spin on the wet market theory. I'll give you a spoiler it was bats and a wet market but it wasn't wet market bats. That's the theory anyway.
Oh, and ban the importation of Chinese bats and other weird shit for the Chinese restaurants.
I'm assuming whatever they sell in Canada already has to meet our food safety standards etc.
You can't import live animals for consumption.
Plus, our standards are pretty lax anyhow. Would anyone eat raw or rare chicken, pork or beef? How many die annually from all the lettuce, meat and carrot juice that gets recalled?
Let he who is without e-coli cast the first stone.
"Public_Domain" said i will say, yeah, the wacky markets should be shutdown/regulated. and yes, the ccp dropped the ball by slowing down on the regulations they put in place after sars.
i think china is less "corruption" and more "not the police state it's imagined to be"; i doubt Big Wildlife Market is bankrolling the ministers. i think they just got very fucking lazy and complacent with enforcement, and tragedy followed.
i do still believe the numbers though until it's more than just "hmm but that doesn't feel right" from grifters on youtube. i also still don't really see a difference between squirrels and bats, but i guess we don't have markets with raw squirrels just available, so i suppose we're dodging bullets over here.
the ccp, before all this, said their latest big project was advancing the rural parts of the country. hopefully this "backward" sort of thing can be replaced by something more modern and "civilized". not to cave to western jackasses trying to earn patreon cash, but for their own people's health.
Yeah, no.
China just about has the market cornered on both fronts (corruption and police state).
In China, money talks, so if you own one of those weird markets (or a factory that pollutes or whatever), you just pay off a bunch of people and the police/regulators look the other way. Maybe not right away, but in a while. Laziness had nothing to do with this - greed did. Just like it did in the tainted pet food scandal a few years back, the baby formula scandal a few years before that, and so on.
Thanos is correct when he says that everything will be back to the way it was shortly after this crisis ends, because greedy (and powerful) people in China and elsewhere will go back to taking bribes and kickbacks like they've always done.
And between the Great Firewall, facial recognition being widely used across Chinese civil society, China's 'social credit' system, the Chinese legal system, detention of hundreds of thousands of Uighurs and other 'undesirables' (and probably a dozen other things instituted by the CCP), China is most definitely a police state.
China Bans All Canadian Meat Products
Also their ban on Canadian Canola?
Remember how this whole pandemic is absolutely their fault. Causing it, then delaying the world response.
They still have innocent Canadians locked up just because.
Fuck China and anybody who says otherwise.

Canada should respond by placing an embargo on coal and oil exports to China.

No.
But we SHOULD be blocking the 5G tech and getting stricter yet on their steel dumping.

I can hear Mom's saying that years from now.
