We've just weathered a record-breaking cold snap in British Columbia and the provincial government was there to tax us for the sin of staying warm.

Pay for your lifestyle or learn to live with less, BC. That's the message all the woke folk like Kennedy Stewart, the yuppie allies of the Natives trying to sabotage the gas pipeline up north, and the rapidly-greying hippies of Burnaby keep saying to the province next door.

I feel sorry for the regular people in BC who have to endure this stupidity. But as long as the province remains eternally dominated by a pack of hard-left assholes in the Lower Mainland there's nothing that can be done about it. BC governments have loved high taxes since before most of us were born and it will probably always be that way. If the BC Libs get in again there might be some minor tax cuts but it won't be enough because it's too politically dangerous to do.

Complete bullshit. I live in that -40 Prince George winter.
Carbon Tax is $1.986 GJ the bill is in gigajoules of energy used.
The rest of your bill is composed of so many split up charges it's unreal.
Assume "commodity charge" is the raw product $2.274 GJ
Then you have to include the "delivery charge" without which you'd not get the gas at all. $12.159-$12.470 GJ
So at least $14.43 and $1.986 tax. And there's half a dozen other charges on there for community charges, rider fees, franchise fees, other taxes etc.

And I am real sure that these guys get just fucking tons of sympathy fom any other Canadians for their $60 home heating bill in January. Wah wah wah!
My Carbon tax totalled $36 for the TWO MONTHS Nov - Jan. Probably will be higher because the coldest weather was in January (the story uses January to make it's complaint) and the Jan-Feb bills aren't even out until March.
