Are you, Canada, into it with China over phone technology with one of their companies?
I'm just trying to figure out their motivation over not wanting you in.
Russia wants to claim territory that is Canada's, right? I seem to remember that being a topic early last year or the year before.
Russia claims the North Pole is their recognized territory. Our claim to a UN treaty shows the North Pole is on our continental shelf, and therefore ours. It's been ongoing for at least 10 years.

We are in the process of extraditing a Chinese phone company executive for the US on charges of fraud for violation of the embargo on Iran. They are holding and torturing two of our citizens in retaliation, and have stopped imports of many of our agricultural products on flimsy grounds because of this.

Don't. It will just make your head hurt.
China is likewise forwarding a theory that they have a claim to Canada's arctic since China has a greater population than Canada does and that it is an injustice that so few Canadians enjoy a wealth of land and resources that is denied to the majority of people on earth including 1.3 billion Chinese.
Canada should quit the UN in protest.
I'm cool with that

Like I've written many times before; they can make those claims, but the lands in question fall 100% inside Canada's internationally recognized borders. They can bluster all they want. It changes nothing.
China takes a long view of things. Their intent is to wear down international opinion until the door is open for them to have their way.
Just like they're doing and have done with Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the South China Sea, and etc.
One day they'll sail their new icebreaker up that way and convince everyone it's just for research.
Then they'll land some researchers somewhere for some pretext of a reason. Your politicians will likely accept the pretext and then issue permits for the Chinese to continue doing it.
Then one day there will be a modest research station. Followed by a runway. Followed by fighters.
And then that place will become China.
Canada refuses to defend these areas in any meaningful way, aside from wrapping ourselves in that threadbare (but very comfortable) cloak of bogus moral superiority. Therefore Canada deserves to lose them to someone who will commit resources to do so. It's 2020. Handing off protection of the far North to some worn-out icebreakers and some Inuit rangers armed with WW2-era Lee-Enfield rifles isn't good enough anymore. In far it wasn't good enough from the moment Canadian governments chose to decide that this was the maximum effort we were going to put into it.
This.
And then that place will become China.
Nope. Right of Conquest was superseded under the Nuremberg Principals. Tibet only belongs to China because no one wants to challenge China over it. Same with Crimea.
The US knows what happened when it tried to annex Canada in 1812.
