Alberta's credit rating has been downgraded by Moody's, with the agency citing the volatility in the province's dependence on oil and continued fiscal pressures. The province's rating was downgraded to Aa2 stable from Aa1 negative on Tuesday.

Alberta Finance Minister Travis Toews said he was disappointed by the rating, which he blamed on the previous government.
    Oh, I get it!!
Growing a pair and telling Moody to fuck off with their climate bullshit is not an option.

Bratt said he can see three big factors to Alberta's deficit increase, and two directly relate to drops in revenue — the corporate tax reduction and the end of the carbon tax. The third he said, was the penalty for getting out of oil by rail.

What do all three of of those things have in common - the UCP!

It's sad when conservatives can't even be good conservatives...but hey, at least doctors will soon be able to tell all those teenage sluts in Alberta to fuck off if they ask for an abortion.

Don't mistake the corporate tax cut as something that only benefits the mega-corps. It was vitally necessary to firm up the ground under the feet of small businesses like shops and restaurants that are getting clobbered and run out of business by the maniac tax-and-spenders like the ones on the Calgary city council. These small guys need every break they can get these days. If tax cuts equal both businesses and jobs saved then they should plow ahead with even more reductions.

Alberta needs to secede before they're reduced to penury by the feckless fucks in Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

Both our provincial governments and city councils in Alberta are amazingly adept at taking a terrible situation and making it exponentially worse, often in a breathtakingly short amount of time.

I haven't seen Conservatives in Alberta since Lougheed.

Klein was the first to bow to the Oil lobby by reducing Alberta's royalty rates, and the first thing Notley did in her acceptance speech was kowtow to the Oil lobby. There is no free market, only the market controlled by a group that isn't even a top 10 employer or revenue stream.

Alberta's deficit problem is entirely of its own doing:

Albertans choose to have lower taxes and go into debt instead of paying a similar level of taxes in the rest of the country.

There is no way in hell that Saskatchewan with its 1.5 million people should garner $13.6 BILLION more in revenues every year than the 4.5 million in Alberta pay. And Saskatchewan is run by a conservative government, not the NDP or Liberals.

As for the ridiculous idea of secession, well if that happens, Edmonton and other chunks of Alberta (like FN reserves) will secede right back into Canada, leaving Alberta a patchwork of little robber barons and blue kool-aid drinkers.

Every single province in Canada is in debt, most of them much worse than Alberta is, both in terms of total debt and debt-per-capita. And all of them have non-stop tax hikes and provincial sales taxes. This is not to say Alberta has been run properly because it hasn't. In comparison though there is no province in this entire stupid country, period, that has the right to look down their stuck-up arrogant noses at Alberta. Certainly not when they've run their own operations that much worse than Alberta has.

We all suck, but some clearly suck much more than others.

    What makes you say that???

If the so-called secessionists were serious, the opposite would occur: Everybody (from all over the world) will gladly pay Albertans for an Alberatan citizenship.
The same goes for the phony Quebec separatists.

You are right. We should have a sales tax.

Please excuse me, I have to lie down. I just advocated for a new tax.
