Big Whoop! If they even win, I am sure they will truly enjoy warming the far backbenches in the HOC - exactly where at least one of the belongs.

I hope they both win but the odds of independents winning are slim and none, moreso after they've been ejected from a caucus. John Nunziata had right on his side too when the Chretien crooks turfed him for not going along and he all but disappeared after being badly beaten when he ran as an independent in the following election.

Close to 100 independent MPs have sat in the House of Commons since the country’s founding, but only a few have found success in British Columbia.

One famous example was Chuck Cadman. The Canadian Alliance MP for Surrey-North was a casualty of his party merging with the Progressive Conservatives to form the Conservative Party of Canada in 2003, ultimately losing that new party’s nomination. He ultimately won re-election as an independent in the 2004 election.

In B.C. politics, Vicki Huntington won two elections in her riding of Delta South without a party affiliation, starting with a razor-thin race in 2009 that had to be decided through a judicial recount. She was the first independent MLA to be elected in B.C. since 1949.

If I was in one of their districts though I'd be thinking, 'Hmmm...I want to vote for Max but if I do that it takes from Scheer and the Liberals get closer to a win. However if I vote for the independent and she wins I'll help take a seat from Trudeau, so go team.'
