    Electric motors don't "emit" anything.

    This is only true in predominantly fossil fuel driven energy sectors (like Germany). In countries like Norway, that's almost entirely hydro electric it's not even close.

    It's almost like finding alternative sources of energy should be a priority.

    So to be clear, only in jurisdictions with a significant amount of coal-burning energy are the emissions higher.

    The irony here is that Righties are the only ones promoting coal, even forcing jurisdictions to use coal-fired plants when they don’t want to, while at the same time they’re using their dirty coal emissions as an excuse to smear electric vehicles.

    Actually if you want to be clear you might try reading the article to find out what the actual bitch is, who to and who's making it.

    The German researchers therefore take issue with the fact that European officials view electric vehicles as zero-emission ones. They note further that the EU target of 59 grams of CO2 per km by 2030 corresponds to a “technically unrealistic” consumption of 2.2 litres of diesel or 2.6 litres of gas per 100 kms.

    These new limits pressure German and other European car manufacturers into switching massively to electric vehicles whereas, the researchers feel, it would have been preferable to opt for methane engines, “whose emissions are one-third less than those of diesel motors.”


    So some German researchers did a a study and advised the EU that the better alternative to pushing electric would be to push natural gas.

    It is interesting that they discovered Electric - for the general EU - doesn't even beat Diesel.

    And the idea that hydro such as in one or two of the less populated, wilder nordic countries is the rule for the EU and not just a possible exception is silly. Norway is mentioned. Last I heard Norway wasn't even a member of the EU.

    Also, I seem to remember something about Germany pushing hard, expensively and ineffectively for energy alternatives but winding up having to return to coal. Hang on...I'll see if I can find that for you.

    But wait...I thought carbon dioxide was "pollution." Isn't that what they say in your world?

    So if this "pollution" is created in order to create electricity where does the "pollution" go when the electricity is fed into your magic EVs.

    Does it just vanish like a rabbit into a hat?

    The only magic there is magic thinking, I think.

    It's a bit more complicated than that.

    Depends on the ages of the generating stations, where their particular fuel is sourced from, the age/efficiency of the fuel processing, etc. Although rare, there are a couple cases where the new coal is better than the old NG, but that will self sort as upgrade cycles happen eventually.

    None of which matters, as this is a study by Germans for Germany, so it is expected to not really cover everything, just what is pertinent to them.

    But yeah, Germany specifically is also having problems creating reasonable-priced electricity.

    German began subsidizing green energy source in earnest in 2011 after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant meltdown. Merkel began an aggressive shift towards solar and wind power to replace its nuclear plants.

    But it’s cost them.

    Germany has spent $780 billion in recent decades, Bloomberg reported, and it’s not enough to get them toward their national goal of cutting carbon dioxide emissions 40 percent by 2020.

    “We expect Energiewende cost to fall starting from early 2020 – renewable power from newly build wind and solar is now the most cheapest power in Germany,” Christoph Podewils, Agora’s communications director, told TheDCNF.

    “Of course we have lot of challenges – market design, regulation, grid expansion and enhancements, acceptance, de-carbonising of heating and transport – but cost is no issue anymore,” Christoph said.

    However, average Germans are feeling the pain. Electricity costs are about three times higher than in the U.S., driven mostly by increases in energy taxes to pay for green energy. Heat is so expensive it’s called “the second rent.”

    German industry, on the other hand, is expempt from green energy laws out of fear they would no longer be competitive. That’s shifted more of the cost onto residents and smaller businesses.

    German emissions are down 27 percent from 1990 levels, which is ahead of other European countries, but still behind what they need to meet their goal.

    Emissions have come down all while coal plants have thrive. Coal, especially lignite, is a cheap source of fuel in Germany that’s competitively subsidized green energy sources. Coal is also a more reliable energy source since it doesn’t rely on the sun and wind.

    “Germany’s CO2 emissions in the electricity sector haven’t decreased since 1995,” Peiser said. “The country is almost certain to fail its climate targets by 2020 by a wide margin.”

    “All that renewables have achieved is to replace zero-carbon nuclear and low-carbon gas power generation while coal power generation is increasingly competitive and thriving,” he said.

    Right, because wind and solar have proven themselves to be soooo reliable when hard winter rolls around. :lol: Just ask the fine people of Minnesota and the Dakotas. They almost froze to death last winter because the power companies couldn't guarantee the supply. All because some pinheads decided that wind and solar (backed up by natgas) was all you need for a region that regularly sees hard winter. You see, their wind and solar capacity at that point was nothing but a waste of money. Natgas was the order of the day and they were running short. This was all during a spell of 30 below and colder temps. Hell, at one point their local power suppliers had to put their customers up in hotels and motels because as I mentioned earlier, they couldn't guarantee a supply of power to everyone. Now imagine trying to charge your EV while all that is happening as well.

    The only reason Ontario got away with it was because we still have significant nuclear capacity and fairly decent hydroelectric capacity.

    As for irony, Climate Barbie stated that climate change knows no borders. And yet, just as the federal carbon tax scam came out, a report was released stating that "Canada is warming at twice the rate as the rest of the world." I mean really? It's not even affecting the US border states, Canada? And this even after significant drops in our oil industry, manufacturing industry, mining industry and agricultural industry. I'm guessing the "double warming rate" is being caused more by Groper constantly running his yap then anything the rest of the country is doing. Are they sure it isn't just Ottawa that's "warming at twice the rate"?
