When an Amber Alert warned about the suspected abduction of an 11-year-old girl in Brampton, Ont., people in her community called 911 to complain the alert was interrupting their TV-watching and invading their privacy.
All I can wonder is how those people who complained would feel if the alert affected them directly and personally.
Apparently, in this case, someone did recognize the vehicle description and reported this to the police so the alert proved to be successful for its intended purpose.
The better way to look at it is that hundreds of thousands, if not a million, other people watching the Leafs game didn't call in to complain about it being interrupted. Less than a hundred idiot whiners out of all those viewers who didn't complain about being notified of something serious? That's actually a great positive, not a negative.
Used to joke in like 1984 that if the radio ever announced the start of a nuclear attack, hundreds would call in to the station to complain they interrupted the 2500th playing of Stairway To Heaven that day....

Though that would be an appropriate song to be playing when a nuclear attack is announced.

..And when the cops forced his car off the road yhank to the Alert, the guy immediately pulled out a gun and shot himself so the system worked quite well in that regard.
Sadly not quickly enough to save his daughter though.
