Medicine Hat church 'happy to pay' carbon tax bill after UCP candidate wrongly claimed cost would be $50,000
A Medicine Hat church that was thrust into the political spotlight when a UCP candidate wrongly claimed it faced a $50,000 carbon tax bill will happily pay its tab of about one-tenth that size, says the lead pastor.
"For us the carbon tax is not a political issue," said Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church pastor Steve Pahl in a statement. "We are more than happy to pay our bills, whatever they are and need to be.
"Many people in our congregation are concerned about environmental issues."
UCP candidate for Brooks-Medicine Hat Michaela Glasgo caused waves on social media Sunday when she tweeted that the church was facing a massive $50,000 carbon tax bill for 2019.
She later retracted the statement and clarified the cost would actually be around $5,400.
But the astounding $50,000 figure was retweeted by UCP Leader Jason Kenney, who added the note "we hear stories like this all the time, sadly."

And that's why Kenney should not win.
Kenney will fuck this province worse than the NDP has. The UCP will close hospitals and schools and cut services all in the name of austerity.
The irony being, the civil service has been under a hiring and wage freeze since Stelmach. Under the NDP, they've also been re-organizing and cutting the size of the civil service to accommodate the effectively lost positions due to retirements and voluntary job losses.
For example, up to five ministries will now have a common hierarchy from the director level up. The only exceptions are AGLC and Justice.
Jason Kenney is not the savior of Alberta. If he wins it will be the same reason Rachel Notley won, a vote of anger instead of a vote based on the candidate’s policies.
If Albertans were smart, they'd anger vote for Stephen Mandell instead of Kenney. He's a much more centrist choice.
Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I feel a lot of these populist conservatives don't care at all about the people
No fucking shit. What gave you that idea?

Kenney will fuck this province worse than the NDP has. The UCP will close hospitals and schools and cut services all in the name of austerity. At the end of his first term, there still wont be a pipeline, Oil and Gas will not have magically recovered, and Alberta will be worse off than it is now. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I feel a lot of these populist conservatives don't care at all about the people (really, I feel all governments forget who put them where they are about 5 minutes after we elect them) and you'll see the nepotism/cronyism right out of the gate. All government has become run by the Kakistocracy.
Once again,
They're moving closer to Trump-type rhetoric too so that's an automatic disqualifier for me supporting them. Kenney would probably be much better at giving Ottawa shit, like getting rid of the carbon tax and finally building the Alberta firewall, but that's all. Everything else, from these bozo eruptions to my simply not believing that they won't go into budgetary slash-and-burn, leads me to be unable to vote for them. I simply don't trust them not to go overboard on too many different issues.

And THAT is why the Federal Liberals should be turfed out of office as brutally as the Ontario Libs were.
What's hilarious and sad at the same though is Nunavut has proved Groper's carbon tax is nothing more than a cash grab scam. Nunavut came up with a perfectly viable plan to reduce emissions by the target amount and date without screwing their people over with a useless tax. Groper flatly rejected it stating that it MUST have a carbon tax component. Well, if the goal is simply to reduce emissions, why the demand for a tax that's not needed to accomplish that goal?
The carbon tax will be challenged in court and it will lose. Nunavut is the lynch pin in that case.

The GAF is not a tax. It is a usury fee. If you look at my example above, one has to ask how the hell a single fee for hydro can be almost three times as much as the actual cost of the hydro.
