Not so much much with this topic, but before Mr Trump makes his less than well thought out comments about Canada he should look at the movie "Escape from Tehran". It may have been a long time ago but to me at least things like this mean a lot.

He may or may not agree with Justin Trudeau's position on things but this is Canada, as you would with your family and very close friends cool the oral flatulence and be nice.

Trudeau isn't interested in funding the Forces. He's continuing the tradition that daddy started, in which the Forces get gutted.

    Disgusting.

I'm kind of pissed off that Trump has balls to gut our economy with a trade war, then have the hutzpah to tell us how to spend what's left of our own money.

    Oh please.

Hows about you just come out and say that we should never have agreed to 2%
    back in 2002.

Because spending money on the military is just racist or something something.

Because actually living up to a commitment is too offensive for lefty types.

Canada not spending 2% of GDP on Defense, as agreed in 2002, 2006, and 2014,
    is 100% Canada's fault.

    No one else.

So trying to say Trump telling us how to spend our money is just idiocy.

Really? So when he says, in straight English:

All NATO Nations must meet their 2% commitment, and that must ultimately go to 4%!

    https://mobile.twitter.com/realDonaldTr ... 050240?p=v

That Trump isn't telling countries, including Canada, how to allocate budgets?

How exactly does your brain interpret that?

I fail to see the issue. It would be fairly easy to get to 2.0% of the GDP. Our GDP is ~$1.53T, so 2% of that is $30.6B. Currently we spend $20.6B. Take some of the profit from weed sales and add it to the defense budget and then figure out where the remaining 4 or 5 billion can come from.

I think 2% is a reasonable amount to fund our forces by.

I don't think it's unreasonable either. I just get my hackles up when the guy (who we didn't and can't vote for) who might killing our economy makes further economic decisions for us.

The 2% was a goal. Not an agreement. Not a 'treaty'.

If we can't be bothered to live up to our commitments, we should leave NATO.

That's what the MAGA's aren't bothering to notice. There's no one here that's said Canada shouldn't be doing more on defense. It's something that's bothered practically all of the CKA conservatives and centrists for years, including us being pissed off at Harper for half-assing the portfolio as much as Chretien, Martin, or Trudeau have. That being said, right or wrong, it's our decision. Not the Americans, and we can't lie down and be bullied by that evil & corrupt asshole the fools put into the White House. And especially not when he's treating defense spending and NATO membership as a protection racket instead of an alliance.
