I hesitate to call it a good outcome.

A rational outcome? Yes. An unfortunate outcome? Yes. Good? I don't know.

Let's look at the defense argument:

Khill pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder, based on self-defence, with his lawyer arguing the shooting was "justified" because he believed Styres had a gun and he feared for his life.

Seems to me that if Khill was a cop then this defense would be enough to clear him and there'd be near universal head nodding in support.

So if this argument works for the cops then it's also applicable to normal people.

The decision also puts criminals on notice that the government won't be protecting them from law abiding citizens anymore.

This is a win for all involved. R=UP

That's the kicker for me. Come to my place and pilfer my stuff; make sure your next of kin knows you might not be coming back.

Good point...this is also a sideways win for property rights.
