California police rescue 13 chained and malnourished siblings

I saw coverage on the news today about this. This story is messed up and makes no sense at all. Having young children imprisoned is one thing but adult children?

Your brain is the most energy hungry organ you have. When you are starving, your body will 'cannibalize' the brain to feed itself. That leads to serious cognitive issues in the long term.

They might have been adults, but depending on how long they were starving, they may face serious social challenges. They might mentally still be children. And they might always mentally be children.
