On Wednesday night the official Playboy Twitter account announced: 'American Icon and Playboy Founder, Hugh M. Hefner passed away today. He was 91. #RIPHef'.
Love and hate him he left an indelible mark. He did his part to take the stick out of America's butt starting the in 50's and he didn't care what people thought. Even when he had a late night show, he had bands on with mixed race members which was scandalous at the time and he didn't care.
With the help of the Playboy foundation, he helped free America from the puritans who would use the law to tell you who, what, when and how to fuck. And unlike his counterpart, Larry Flynt, he did it with class:
RIP Hef. You lived a life most boys and men could only dream of.
And it doesn't matter if he's in heaven or not; he'd been there for a good while already...
What passes for Hef"s "natural causes" is definitely not what most people would call natural, that is if all the stories thru the years are to be believed.....
Oh, please Herb. He took the 1950's housewife and gave her the pride to be able to walk around topless in public if she wants. Women aren't just chattel anymore, they are goddeses.
And enjoyed watching the puritans heads explode while he did it.
And enjoyed watching the puritans heads explode while he did it.
And they did explode. I remember when they hid National Lampoon behind the counter with both Playboy the Hustler magazines... letters to the editor when they let Barbarella be in theatres, a shitstorm when the BC film censor gave Caligula an R instead of a X rating... I can imagine the reaction in the 1950s
Thanks Hef.
Mixed legacy depending on your viewpoint but certainly a major cultural/historical figure regardless.

You had one Hell of a run there Hef......R.I.P.
A great one has fallen. RIP Mr. Heffner.
I think it was Miss April 1981 that I still remember. <3
RIP Mr. Hefner you earned it, and thanks.
Keep it up Hugh.....
But Mom! I only read it for the articles.
I guess you have to Billy, all the other pages are stuck together!
Gotta give the guy A for effort. He did his very best to make sexism and misogyny seem classy.
