100 Mile House fire grows to 380 hectares, evacuation orders issued

Wow. Yet another big one... I certainly hope this one gets contained as soon as possible. So early in the summer and already the situation is getting bad out there.

Thank God for those who are out there battling these fires.

Drove into 100 Mile yesterday afternoon after seeing the plume of smoke from the Canim Lake highway. The fire grew to over 500 hectares last night and the temps today aren't going to make things any better. Friends of mine at the 103 are on evacuation alert today. I pray for all the men and women on the front lines of the fire and hope that they can bring this under control soon.

Right now we've got major fires in California, too.

Sister posted the smoke plume is visible from our cabin at Green Lake (70 Mile House).

Damn trees!!!

Went to town again today to pick up my friends German Shepherd after they were ordered to evacuate their home. They only have a small travel trailer and besides themselves they also have two cats. I knew this might happen and had volunteered to look after Seri for them yesterday. Then, Kate said that it was really nice of me to offer but that it probably wouldn't come to that - today is an entirely different matter. The fire is out of control, zero percent contained and now well over 1250 hectares. To make matters worse, the winds picked up around lunchtime today and we have had gusts to 60K.

Not surprised, herbie......we can see the plume here in Eagle Creek which is 58K NE of 100 Mile.

58K isn't really a great distance from the fire, especially if the wind is blowing in your direction!

If you mean from Herbie's sister at Green Lake, Hyack - Green Lake is about an hour South of where I live in Eagle Creek. Herbie is a Left Coaster, so he's aways away.

It would be much easier for Herbie's sister to see the plume as Green Lake is up on the plateau - barring trees blocking one's view and considering the height of the plume, I imagine they get a real good look down there.

Eagle Creek/Canim Lake is like the foothills of the Cariboo Mtns. We are surrounded by forests and mini mountains. Again, because the plume is so immense and has risen to such a height, if you can find a high open spot out here, you can get a good view. I am going to go back up the hill once the sun is down and have another look. It's only a 5 minute stroll up the road.

This is not going to end well. There are fires burning all around us. A fire official in Williams Lake stated that they were breaking out faster then they could be recorded. There are two burning in Little Fort to the East of us. Then there is the fire that started in Ashcroft and has now shut down all vehicular traffic in both directions on the Trans-Canada and HWY 97, caused the evacuation of the entire village of Cache Creek and already caused structural damage in Boston Flats - a community on the outskirts of Cache Creek. No change in the weather for the foreseeable future and then there are these rogue systems that appear out of nowhere and wreak in their own havoc in the form of prolonged wind gusts up to 60K. One of them blew through here today around noon and did not abate until just after 6PM. It's a pretty awesome sight watching 30-ft Douglas Fir bending, creaking and swaying in the wind. And pretty darn frightening when you think of what those same gusts are doing to the fires.

My in-laws live in Williams Lake and the smoke and flames are getting uncomfortably close. No evacuation order yet,but there is an advisory to prepare for one.

Just texted my sister - they've closed the highway at 100 Mile and also closed it and evacuated Cache Creek, she posted4 she might be stuck.
Told her about Hwy24 to Little Fort and 99 to Pemberton that might still be accessible.

Eagle Creek: I was there in 1982 installing these high-tech gizmos that turned the newfangled push button phone tones back into rattly dial pulses! When you only had to dial 4 numbers for local calls.

We've only had exactly 48 hrs of of hot weather, there's already a fire (put out quickly) about 30 miles up Stuart Lake. Nice thunderstorm & wind about 3 hours ago snapped off a Cottonwood about 35 ft up dropped it in the yard. Missed my little barn by only a foot! Noticed cleaning it up it was dry as a soda cracker!
