A former engineer has been found not guilty of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm in connection with a deadly northern Ontario mall roof collapse.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Edward Gareau delivered his ruling in the trial of Robert Wood on Thursday in Sault Ste. Marie, saying Wood's actions were "sloppy," but not criminal.

Not sure I agree with this one... when your job can kill people, sloppy IS criminal.

Yep. Not responsible? What's the point of the PEng designation then?

Pretty sure his career is over now, name is pretty much mud.

As Engineers we have to take a certain amount of Law courses, and we know full well that putting your seal on a report or design has the implication of legal consequences if our designs are faulty and cause someone's death. That's why we wear the Iron Ring and perform Rudyard Kipling's "Calling of an Engineer", as a reminder of that responsibility.

But yes, I expect even if he's found not guilty, his mistakes will mean the OPSE will revoke his seal and designation.
