A man was forcibly removed from a United Airlines flight from Chicago to Louisville, Ky., on Sunday, after the flight was overbooked and the passenger refused to adhere to the airline's decision to randomly remove four passengers.

Notice they didn't randomly pick a guy who'd kick their teeth down their throats? Funny how that works.

As far as I'm concerned if they needed to get their own damn employees to another airport to do their damn jobs then they should have arranged for transport another way. NOT by forcibly "bumping" PAYING customers out of their seats. Complete bullshit IMO.

Three on one for some people is a license to kill. And I'm speaking to both sides of that equation.

In this guy's case he's lucky they didn't kill him because from what I saw on the video they were very close to going there right on board the plane.

The airline was wrong to forcibly remove passengers for their fuckup, but what was the passenger thinking trying to fight them off? How did he think that would end?

Not everyone in the world is comported to politely suffer injustice.

Fight them off? You must be watching a different video than me. I don't see any pouches or kicks being thrown. I seen a man (who is a Doctor that needs to see patients in another state) standing up for (or in this case sitting down for)his rights. I seen a few thugs with badges earning the hate. One of them have already been suspended. And cops wonder why their popularity is right up there with 2 week old sushi. How did he think it would end? He is an instant American hero. His bank account will grow by thousands, if nor millions of dollars by the time this thing settles. As far as the legal mumbo jumbo in the fine print of the ticket it states that one may be not allowed to board the scheduled flight in the case of overbooking. The good Doctor was already boarded, therefore he was well within his rights to stay boarded.

The better question to ask is how did United Airlines think this would end? They look like assholes in front of the whole world. Millions of people will think twice about flying United. Start to type the word boycott on Google. Google will finish the sentence with United by the time you get to the third letter. The costs in legal fees, and the loss of face will be huge.

You know in advance that it's a fight you're going to lose... they WILL get you off the plane.

Me, the conversation would go a bit like this...

So, you fucked up and you want me to leave the plane. How much is it worth to you if I don't give you any problems and leave by myself? You'll pay my ticket, next flight, 1st class? :D

United Airlines is pleased to announce new seating on all domestic flights- in addition to United First and Economy Plus we introduce....

Not everyone in the world is comported to politely suffer injustice.

All that matters is: Did his choice of behaviour leave him better off or worse off than if he had just left quietly? The answer is worse off, and there was no chance of it ending any other way.

Ergo, he was stupid. Now he's got more problems than just missing his flight. Throwing a pointless temper tantrum and losing all self control to make your situation worse isn't a display of bravery or strength or dignity, it is the exact opposite of those things.

Exactly. In fact I'm surprised the airline didn't offer that from the start and I hope that they get slapped for it. Years ago when I was still in university I was flying home with a connection in Detroit. The flight on to Buffalo was oversold and first thing they did was offer passengers first class and $400 to take the next flight. Then they upped it to $700 and enough people took them up on the offer. In those days that would have been enough for a round trip flight to Paris; one of my biggest regrets is that I didn't take the offer (the next flight was 7 hours later and I was a broke student without even a dollar on me for so much as a bottle of water, plus I had just smoked my last cigarette so it wouldn't have been a fun time).

Dude I can't figure you out. You spend all your time on here championing left wing/liberal causes. Now here you are siding with a corporation. A corporation that basically every news corp. (left and right ) is speaking out against. You seem to be their only fan. Which is really surprising seeing as how they refused boarding to two females for wearing leggings a couple of weeks ago. You siding with United on that one too? An airline wants to bump money paying customers so some of their own employees can take their seats. Thats real customer service there. The money paying customers who keep the airline in business gets to be screwed over because of the inept scheduling abilities of the corporation, and you are siding with the corporation?

You spend a fair amount of time in the police misconduct thread calling out police on brutality. Now you are ok with police roughing up a 69 year old man who is not breaking any law whatsoever? The police are supposed to enforce the laws, not act as "hired muscle" for corporations. What about the bulshit statement that the Chicago police department released about this incident stating that the man "fell" while being escorted off the plane, injuring his head. These assholes are so used to lying to cover up their own that they failed to realize that the whole world has seen the video, and knows the truth.

I love how you think that someone standing up for their rights is throwing a pointless temper tantrum. I guess all those women getting locked up for women's suffrage were a bunch of whiny bitches throwing a temper tantrum. All those people getting arrested at white only lunch counters must of lost all self control.

Seriously, did you leave your account logged on and someone else is posting on it?
