Rail cars are moving, but some farmers are having trouble getting contracts filled, said Rick Kantz, president of the B.C. Grain Producers Association.
Lack of organisation (a former Wheat Board function) and no grain going to the port at Churchill (also a Wheat Board initiative) have resulted in this mess. Thanks Harper.
Although I have the utmost respect for farmers and I know how much stress and difficulties they have (I worked a lot with them when I financed farmers during the time I worked in banks)... there is one thing I want to share... farmers are some of the whiniest people I've ever met.
: For the wheat board thing, I was on board with you guys.

As a former road builder, dealing with farmer's all the time I totally agree with you Ray.
I remember one farmer that the company I worked for had made him a millionaire because he had gravel on his land, near the end of the job he takes a chain and locks up the gate to the pit because he hadn't recieved his 6 loads of gavel for his yard that he was promised when he signed the contract.
If anybody cut the lock he was going to charge them with trespassing, once someone came and held his hand and assured him we hadn't forgotten about him, he unlocked the gate and he got his gravel after the job was done.
If this is true, why isn't your Liberal government taking action.
This is what Harper did to get the rail company's attention.
Quick Facts This year’s Western Canadian crop, at 76 million tonnes, is 50% higher than average. This volume is putting significant pressure on Western Canada’s grain handling and transportation system. As the Government continues to work with farmers to invest in research and innovation, higher yields will continue to be the new reality across Canada.
On March 7, 2014, Minister Raitt and Minister Ritz announced immediate and concrete action to get grain moving more efficiently in Western Canada. The recently announced Order in Council obligates Canadian National (CN) and Canadian Pacific (CP) to increase their capacity to each carry a minimum of 500,000 metric tonnes of grain per week, by the week of April 7, and for them to report on the volume of grain moved each week.
The order imposes these obligations from March 10 to June 7, 2014. It creates a legal obligation on railways, and penalties of up to $100,000 per day could be imposed on them for failing to comply. The proposed legislation extends these performance requirements to August 3, 2014.
See, what I never understood was why Harper didn't just change things so that farmers who didn't want to use the CWB didn't have to, while farmers who did want to use it still could.
They talked about 'freedom' for marketers, but they took away the freedom for farmers to use the public option if they wanted to, and forced them to all market their grain through the private companies.
All the complaints I ever heard were about the mandatory nature of the CWB, and none of the rural-background people I asked ever had an issue with other farmers using the Board if those other guys wanted to.
And for all the criticism the Liberals have gotten for selling arms to the Saudis, why was there so little protest about the CWB's assets being sold by Harper to the Saudis for a song?
We can't sell them weapons, but it's okay to sell them food supply assets?
If you really want to know why, you'll do some research.
I've had to explain it repeatedly to members here that put a big blue C beside their name but have never farmed for a living.
I'm done. The damage is done. Harper destroyed for good what took generations to create.
That article you posted is a line of bull. So is the one i started the thread with. The farmers knew these troubles were coming when Harper tore up the board.
Thanks Harper.
I think we called that one, way back.
