Right off the bat, we have fewer homicides per capita. That's the salient point. If the US had less access to guns, maybe they'd stab and beat each other to death more often too, but overall kill each other less. Points to the lethality of guns vs sharp and blunt objects.

What you should be ferreting out is the numbers of mass shooting incidents per capita. The US has got the rest of the world beat on that one.

Per capita the US does not dominate on mass shootings. Right now Mexico, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, Mali, and several more beat us out in that regard.

How many of those got that way because of American policy though? War-on-terror, war-on-drugs, etc?

Nice company you're keeping there Bart. A state becoming a narco state, one undergoing a revolution, two that y'all blew the living shit out of, and a couple of Al Qaeda states. Yep, no worries. Welcome to the United States of Civil Collapse. (Gotta admit I was waiting for that gotcha moment.)

Given that you acknowledge the country is in a slide to the bottom you'll appreciate that I'm not at all interested in gun control for that precise reason.

A very sad statement. For you for sure, and for Canadians as well. You're just contributing to that slide to the bottom because you don't beleive in govt - this is what happens.

To have the US listed in that rogues gallery should be embarrassing.

I believe in limited government, not a cradle-to-grave nanny state that regulates and micromanages every single aspect of daily life.

Only if we catch the disease from you. I hope Canadians will not be that stupid, but of course...

Sorry, you'll have to elaborate how Canada is approaching the US level of The Postman, Bart.

That kind of knee jerk, emotive, I know you are but what am I approach has no purpose in the discussion.

Well, it looks like you overshot the mark. Maybe a little more limits on guns, a little less on govt would do wonders. The trick is getting the mix right, and as you say, y'all don't seem to be at the moment.

To be fair, this has to be a painful, embarrassing subject for Bart. Hell, it is for me. For all my gloating, I sure don't want to see the US going this way. And not just for my self interest, tho that's involved too. I was very close to emigrating there at one time, for God's sake.

I'm just reading this post over on Free Republic and the stats are pretty interesting.

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2972378/posts

Some of the findings are disturbing.

For instance, Canada has fewer homicides that the USA (which is not news) and fewer people die from gunshots in Canada than in the USA.

But Canadians make up for that by stabbing to death and beating to death more people per capita than in the USA.

Canadians also hang themselves much more (per capita) than do Americans. 8O

I'm still reading this so don't consider my post final.
Wow! According to this "information" murders in Canada are "more brutal" than in the U.S. what could be more brutal than the murder of school kids?
