(Reuters) - Japanese officials may only have hours to cool reactors that have been disabled by Friday's massive earthquake and tsunami or face a nuclear meltdown.

    TV tickers are reporting radiation 1000 times normal in the area, in spite of this
    planned release.

    A 10 km evacuation zone has been declared.

    Could be not very good.

    Well their plan to vent the reactor isn't going to happen....no power, so the pressure will continue to build.

    Update 7:39: The latest from Kyodo Wire: Government holds emergency meeting on the plant, and is taking unprecedented stap of demanding the plant open a key valve.

    I'm not an engineer yet both I'm quite sure they have come kind of valve to release pressure after some levels.

    there are lots of valves. However, the difference is being able to to do it at a safe distance in a controlled manner and then there is having to do it manually

    So, someone will need to sacrafice himself ? It's like a scenario of a 90's movie.
