Folks from Ireland have been very instrumental in building both Canada and The States. They are good people.

When they are sober.. :)

Then we can also fire up the Irish Regiment again.

On a serious note, why aren't we training our own for those jobs ?

Seems to me we have lots of kids who need a job...

:D I was visiting my cousin in Scotland a couple of years ago and she was having an addition built on their house. Every afternoon her husband would take out an icy bucket of beer for the workers. I asked if that was some sort of customary thing to do. I was told that it was the only way to ensure the work crew would show up for work the next day.

Good point unless they have an idea to look for immigrants for certain communities. I'm not sure if that what is going on but unless you are doing that than yes train and use Canadians. I don't think Canadian unemployment is that low.

$1:
The biggest demand relates to carpenters, electricians, welders, plumbers, heavy equipment operators and millwrights.

And they all cannot work without a Canadian education.

More Irish wanted? Why, do we have a shortage of our own homegrown angry alcoholics so we need to import some more? 8)

It said in the article 335 000 new construction positions are expected to open up over the next 2-3 years. That reprents a 4% population jump in just one sector of industry; not including families, and not including other industries. Effectively, there are going to be far more jobs available than what our population growth can fill, even at the current higher growth rates. This will lead to stagnant growth, and sadly inflation, both of which would fuck over the rest of the country directly and indirectly.

It is in our best interest to target a specific group of immigrants to fill our quotas that can easily integrate with the rest of society and whom fill up a specific niche in parts of the country other than the big 3 cities.

Canada would rather import workers than train the legions of unemployed.

Here's a thought, advertise in NFLD/NS/PEI/NB and get guys who can really integrate. Pay them a decent wage and you won't have the expense of having to settle foreign workers and their families.
