$1:
Ontario Federation of Labour president Sid Ryan also called on the province to scrap its tuition rebate grant and instead replace it with an across-the-board tuition fee reduction that would reduce upfront education costs for all students.

"Premier McGuinty has allowed Ontario's tuition fees to rise from fourth place to the highest in Canada and his current proposal is a transparent way to soften the blow of an increasingly exclusive education system," Ryan said in a release.

"When the premier promised to reduce tuition fees, students believed him. Many of them even voted for him. Students and their families expect him to deliver on his promise."

Sorry to be blunt, but anyone who put any stock in a promise made by McGuinty is a total idiot.

Odd that this protest occurred on the very day that every university student in Ontario had $800 deposited in their accounts. Hopefully a few of these protesters will go home tonight, check their bank accounts and maybe say "Ohhh...Ooops" to themselves. Then there's the 30% rebate available to low-income students and students in need. While it may be that Ontario has higher tuition rates than elsewhere in the country, it's also the province that has the most and easiest access to grants, bursaries and scholarships.

Not every University student is eligible to receive the grant, and not all of those that are, will get the full $800.

College students are restricted to a maximum of $365.

Yes, there are some conditions (listed on the link I provided), but almost everyone at the University of Guelph got $800 today. It was the talk of the town.

Paraphrasing a comedian I heard a while back...

Come Sunday there won't be a hooker in Guelph without a cocaine hangover and some freshman's hand print on her ass.

Was there ever a time in the last 30 years when students weren't protesting tuition fees?
