Why? Because

$1:
During the election campaign last spring the Conservatives promised the office would become a key pillar of Canadian foreign policy.

And people were stupid enough to vote for them.

Which has got to tell you how fucking god-awful the policies of the NDP and LIberals were/are.

Nobody even knew what the policies were. The Harperites put on the smoke and mirrors "just visiting" crap, and Canadians haven't built up a tolerance for U.S. attack politics yet. It worked for Bush, and it worked for Harper. But it won't last.

And you want to blame that on the Conservative campaign style? (not that I agree with attack-style ads). For the few years he was here, All Iggy did was rail on about Harper. No platform other than "Harper sucks" and a few mumbled words about nationalized daycare and shorter qualifying times for EI. Both of which are just bad ideas all 'round.
As for the NDP, we're all familiar with their platform by now. Pie-in-the-sky promises that won't jive with fiscal realities.

Why do we need a minister of state for sports.

I know what their policies are. Maybe you just closed your mind because you were set on hating the Conservatives from the start.

Well its a good thing we've got a freedom of religion ministry to look out for us antiharperites then. Canadians did not support the corporate tax breaks, they don't support the dumb on crime omnibus, then end of the CWB or the long gun registry, and the harperites never said what they would do if another recession hit. What policies of theirs were popular besides the attacks?

Well I guess if Canadians didn't support any of that then they have a chance to tell them in four years.

Such a thing might be ok, depending what it does. I'm just not sure what it will be doing. Seems like a bigger waste of $ than the Gun Registry could ever be and not have any of the utility either.

I agree, it looks like its going to be another one of those positions where a Conservative supporter gets plunked in for 7 years or so then retires with a 90,000 pension.
