I read this story the other day, and I can see a reluctance even in the military itself. I am on a course right now, and the school is hosting its own remembrance ceremony, in a location a few hours away. Several other students wanted to go to a ceremony for a friend they lost 2 years ago while they were all on tour in Afghanistan (the travel time to the soldier's home town where the ceremony is, is roughly the same distance). The school denied them the request, the excuse was that the school's ceremony is older and needed people to attend, so it took precedence. A few instructors offered to take the students places, that was also shut down.

I can't imagine to think what Remembrance Day will look like in 20 years time.
