What an idiotic move. Wow. It's one thing to not harass commuters, but it's another thing entirely to just stop Border agents from actually doing their job by preventing illegals, criminals, and potential terrorists from crossing the border into the United States. If they're making hundreds of arrests from these routine checks, then something is being accomplished to better serve both Canada and the United States.

Why would we want to stop illegals, criminals and terrorists from crossing the border into the United States? Better there than here, no?

I'd prefer them caught and dealt with, over anything. I'm not sure how having the United States willingly expose itself to danger for no reason makes any sense. And this is coming from me, who's been dealing with a lot of bullshit with US Customs for the last few months. Either way, if they continue to give me crap for an expired L2 and they don't actually attempt to detain criminals and terrorists, what's the point of their existence?

There is no point to their existence when we have 1000s of miles of unprotected border. The sole practical purpose of border checkpoints is fee collection.

Oh come on. Criminals, terrorists, and illegal immigrants can and do cross various border checkpoints into the United States. Fees are certainly an aspect, but you think fees are going to be stopped by hampering the job of the people who are supposed to be catching threats before they enter the United States.

Plus, if you cross the border enough, you'll start to notice that they don't really care about the trunk full of groceries and consumer goods in your car...well at least crossing into the US. The Canadians love harping on that.

Sure, idiot-criminals cross at checkpoints. Where do shipments of drugs and arms cross? Either they come through the checkpoints undetected, which makes the checkpoint useless, or they don't come through the checkpoint, also making the checkpoint useless. Seems like a lot of money to spend, for very little benefit, to having any physical borders between Canada and the USA. It'd be money better spent to join forces and defend our continent's borders.

And there are a lot of idiot criminals. I do agree that having an EU-esque border system would be better for Canada, don't get me wrong, but it'd still be necessary to check and control the Mexican border, as well as air/sea access points.

Until that point arrives, I don't see why the Americans think handicapping their Border and Custom forces is a good idea.

As far as the MEXICAN border goes, yes indeed we need to have quite a bit of a security enhancement. The Mexican drug gangs and the Mexican drug war have made that quite a security concern.

The Canadian border does not present that kind of problem.

Oh don't get me wrong, the Mexican border is a massive clusterfuck, that I'm almost surprised you guys haven't turned into a DMZ of the likes of Korea. However, criminals do use the border, and such, and it is in your interest to keep secured. Not military secured, but just because Canada is a friendly country, doesn't make anybody crossing from Canada friendly to the United States

Well if we could maybe disband the TSA that would just make me happy. I´ve read horror stories about them, they creep me out. 8O
